When decay reaches the pulp, it can infect the whole tooth, including
the tip of the root. At this point, a root canal treatment is needed to
save the tooth from further decay.
A small drill is used to create an access opening. The pulp and
canals are cleaned using small files and filled with a rubbery material
called gutta percha.
The tooth is then prepared for a crown (cap) and the crown is
permanently cemented into place.
