With the loss of an upper lateral incisor, upper central incisor, or molar the missing tooth is replaced with a dental implant (external hex), abutment and crown.
Before the implant can be put into place a small drill is used to create an access opening. The pulp and canals are cleaned using small files and filled with a rubbery material called gutta percha.
The tooth is then prepared for a crown (cap) and the crown is permanently cemented into place. This restoration preserves the bone and prevents the need for cutting down (preparing) the natural teeth for a bridge.
